DIY Tassel Garland For Any Occassion

DIY Tassel Garland Tutorial

Are you looking for an inexpensive and easy way to decorate your home this holiday season? Not just for the holidays, tassel garlands are such a fun decor trend right now. They can be used to add some flair to anything from weddings to party decor to nursery walls. It’s easy to make your own with some tissue paper, sparkling mylar or fabric, scissors and string. Keep scrolling for a simple DIY Tassel Garland tutorial! Enjoy! XO

The materials list is what you need to make a larger version to dress the front of a buffet table or stretch across a wall, but you can easily scale down the project. For a version small enough to add pizazz to your dining chairs, use 1/8 sheet of tissue paper per tassel. I used a 1/4 sheet total of fabrics for the front of the high chair at my babies 1st birthday party and it was the perfect amount.

Supplies You Will Need

Materials Needed:

  • 1/2 sheet of 20″ x 20″ or 20″ x 24″ tissue paper or mylar per tassel
  • scissors
  • ribbon or cord
  • glue gun

Cut Fringe

Fold a piece of tissue paper in half and in half the other way. The more folds you make, the more “fringy” the tassels will look. That is personal preference- I like mine a little fuller. Cut strips towards the fold to create fringe, leaving about 1 inch uncut at the fold line.

Once all strips are cut, unfold the tissue and cut in half so you have 2 sheets with fringe (to make 2 tassels).

Twist Tassels

  • Unfold tissue paper.
  • Begin rolling tightly down the middle crease.
  • Continue rolling, fold in half and then twist to create a loop for hanging.
  • Place a small dab of hot glue to keep it from unrolling.

**This is not necessary for tissue but mylar and especially fabric will need the glue.

String them onto your twine and display! Easy-peasy!

XOXO- M&D
