PHOTO SHOOT MAKEUP TIPS & TUTORIAL!!!
WELCOME BACK BEAUTIES!!!
Melissa and I were so excited because when she came out to visit me in February we got an awesome opportunity to work with an amazing celebrity Photographer, Cat Palmer. We are so grateful to Cat that we have these shots from her, not just for business but because we have been best friends for almost 10 years now and these are super special and turned out great! Thanks Cat!
In today’s photo shoot makeup tutorial I am going to take you through what are some of our tips & tricks are for keeping your makeup on longer throughout the day, to show up on camera, but not look overdone in your professional photos.
Make sure to watch through the tutorial for all the tips, but here are a couple of things to keep in mind.
- Do not use ANY sunscreen in your products, this creates a white cast over the skin and does not photograph well.
- Use WAY more makeup then you use on a normal day, the flash takes away I would say between 40-60% of what your makeup looks like in real life.
- Use flattering colors that are timeless and classic if you are going to be using these photos for a good amount of time. This especially applies to Bridals, Engagements and of course wedding makeup.
- BLACK LINER & MASCARA ONLY, You want to make sure your eyes pop so for photo shoots put away that brown liner!
- For lip stick use a color that will enhance the natural tone of the lips, enhance your featured but not be too overpowering.
We hope you enjoy our Photo Shoot Makeup Tutorial!!
Hope you all enjoyed the tutorial as much as Melissa and I enjoyed filming it for you! Here is a complete list of all the products we used to create these looks. I did my makeup using all the same products before we started the video.

Thanks Greta!! Xo!
Great tutorial. You look great!
Thank you so much!!
This is a great tutorial and you both look amazing. I work occasionally with a professional photographer (my sister) and she always recommends that her clients have their makeup done before a shoot. It makes such a difference!
Thanks Beth!! Yeah it really does make such a difference! Xo thanks for watching!!
This was super helpful! Thank you! I struggle with how to do my makeup for photo shoots.

These are great tips!! Haha more is more, I will keep that in mind. I feel like it was so true on our wedding day. I thought I had SO much makeup on but it photographed amazing! I love that bobbi brown shadow, it’s stunning!

Awesome tips, thanks for sharing! Do you have any recommendations for an event like a wedding where there will be lots of photos but where SPF is necessary because we’ll be outside?
Of course! Thanks for watching!!!! I have loved the BB cream from Bobbi brown with spf 35 to wear almost as a primer under the skin foundation stick. I would later sunscreen under a full coverage foundation to help avoid the white cast.
You two are so adorable and I totally agree with your tip about piling on the makeup for a shoot. I’ve had to learn that the hard way when I go to shoot my fashion/outfit posts. My makeup won’t show up the way I want it to in the photos and I’ve really had to layer on the contour and bronzer to get it to be seen!
Exactly!!!!!!!! It makes such a difference! Haha thanks so much for watching!
Excellent, as always ! Bravo!
Thanks so much!!
Flawless faces! I always wondered why I can pile on the bronzer but look ghost white in my photos… it’s the sunscreen! Thanks for helping that lightbulb click on. This will change EVERYTHING.

Haha yaaaaaay!!!! I’m so so glad that it helped!!!!! Thanks so much for watching!!
So true about needing to wear a ton for it to show up! And the sunscreen tip is great- it makes a HUGE difference and most people don’t realize that.
Such a difference!!!!! Thanks for reading!!!! Xo
You two are just stunning! You look flawless. I love happy smiles. 🙂
You both look so pretty! I feel like I always wear too much makeup but you’re so right the way it shows up in photos. By the way, I’m loving all your books!! My office looks almost identical with my 5 full bookcases. 🙂
This look is GORGEOUS! You both are gorgeous, first and foremost, but this look is easy enough for anyone to tackle!
