Good morning beauties! Are you excited about Thanksgiving this week or are you looking forward to the shopping madness that follows more? Regardless of your plans next week there is a good chance that between Halloween and Thanksgiving you have some leftover pumpkins that are coming to the end of their life span. As awesome as pumpkin pie, pumpkin lattes and pumpkin infused home decor are, there are even better benefits that this lovely vegetable fruit can provide to your skin! It is packed full of antioxidants, fruit enzymes, vitamins and alpha hydroxy acids (AHAs), which increase cell turnover, to brighten and smooth the skin. That means less wrinkles and diminished age spots.
• Pumpkin contains antioxidant Vitamin A and Vitamin C this helps to help soften, soothe the skin and boost collagen production which helps prevent the signs of aging.
• Zinc in pumpkin seeds is brilliant for acne sufferers!!! Zinc will help control the hormone level and oil production, as well as assist with healing of the skin. We will discuss more ways to fight acne from the inside out in a later post.
• Pumpkin seeds are high in essential fatty acids and Vitamin E, which are necessary to maintain good barrier function of the skin. They also regulate sebum, great for an oily skin.
• The molecular structure of pumpkin is small and therefore can penetrate deeper into the skin when used topically. This is amazing for treating a dull complexion, aging skin and pigmentation.
Because of all these amazing properties pumpkin masks and chemical peels are offered at the best esthetic and dermal clinics. But those are pretty pricey to do regularly. As an esthetician I am asked so often for ways to maintain that professional skin care without breaking the bank. Plus as mothers and busy women, we often don’t have time to get into the spa. I love to do this mask on my face at night once my babes are in bed.
For the mask: Whisk together 1/4 cup of pumpkin and one whole egg. The yolk adds nourishment while the white provides a subtle tightening effect to sagging skin. This can be the fresh pumpkin you included in your Thanksgiving decor or that left over pumpkin your kids painted for Halloween and you don’t have the heart to throw out yet. (guilty) Or you can use canned pumpkin puree. A lot of it will be on sale right now so stock up. 🙂
*Oily skin: Mix in a splash of apple cider or add some organic greek yogurt for a natural astringent.
*Dry skin: Add a few teaspoons of honey, which both moisturizes and prevents breakouts thanks to its antibacterial properties.
Apply: Smooth your pumpkin puree over your face, relax for 15 to 20 minutes, and rinse to reveal a brighter, firmer, smoother complexion.
*If you do this after steaming your face or fresh from the shower it will give you an added boost because your pores will be open and clean.
Wah-la! Hope you love this, if you give it a try let us know how it worked for you 🙂 or if you have any questions!

Hi…Does it have to be fresh pumpkin or can you use the can kind?
You can use either! That is why right now is a perfect time to either snag the fresh ones or stock up on the canned kind while it is on sale!
