Fall is in the air! Around the country the weather is getting chillier and while we don’t really get to “chilly” here in Charleston, the pumpkin patches opened this weekend so it’s official (wink). Break out the Pumpkin Spice everything!
First order of business was getting to the pumpkin patch. I love using pumpkins both real and faux to decorate our home and I LOVE baking with real pie pumpkins. This was my little guys first pumpkin patch experience and since he’s been greeting every pumpkin he sees, i.e.; the decor in our home, the real ones they put out at our neighborhood Publix, the pumpkins in books, I knew he was going to love it.
Since Saturday is my usual grocery day we bumped it to Monday so that we could have a fun-filled fall family day. (Now there’s a tongue twister for you)! So instead we stopped by Publix on our way to the pumpkin patch and picked up some snacks and juice for the excursion.
I’ve posted before about how I manage our time and family with a busy schedule and making a healthy and yummy homemade snack mix that doesn’t need to be refrigerated really keeps my little ones happy for our weekend adventures. Full children are happy children. All of you mamas out there know kids get hangry too!
I thought this was the perfect time to share my on-the-go toddler (and mom) approved homemade snack mix so I’ve included the recipe in this post. I literally mixed it up in the car. It’s that easy!
They are up on the top shelf of my neighborhood Publix- probably helps the little hands from getting into them! I am tall so I can get them no problem, and it’s Publix so there is always someone friendly to assist you.

Then we headed for the pumpkin patch. When we pulled in my little guy looked out the window and said “wooooooah”! He was stunned. So many pumpkins. Of course we had to see all of the pumpkins and ride on the tractor. There was even bowling with pumpkins. It was a long afternoon but it was a huge success and we came home with some itty bitty pumpkins. 🙂
Snack Mix For Toddlers
I combine equal parts:
- Gerber® Lil’ BeaniesTM Original
- Freeze Dried Strawberries
- Yogurt Covered Raisins
- Graham cracker sticks or granola
- Pretzels (optional)
Just put that in a resealable gallon sized bag and mix it up. The separate into small single serving size portions. You can use a snack or sandwich sized bag or I use small storage cups with lids so they don’t get pulverized into snack dust. 😉
