Ghostbusters Family Movie Night with FREE Printables!

It’s pretty much all things Halloween around here. Ghosts, goblins and slime. The non-scary kind of course because not only do we have little kids but I am the worlds biggest wuss. Ha! My poor hubby loves scary movies but for Family Movie Night in this house, those are just a no-go.

But there are some great “fun scary” movies to get you in the Halloween spirit, the classics like Ghostbusters and now the NEW Ghostbusters release. I loved the classic growing up and we had both wanted to see the new one so we thought this would be the perfect time since it is was just released on Blu-ray, DVD and 4K Ultra HD at WALMART so there is sure to be one close to you! The Extended Edition of Ghostbusters on Blu-ray has over 15 minutes not seen in theaters, plus over 3 hours of hilarious extras, so I snagged it! We have been prepping for our Halloween party this weekend so I thought why not give it a test run and add it into family movie night so today we are going to share a little family movie night fun! Brought to you by Walmart Family Mobile, which I am going to talk about a little later (anyone who uses a LOT of data like we do should make sure to read all about it).

How to throw a Ghostbusters Family Movie Night

To get started you just need a few things. Here are some ideas that I used to make our family movie night come together:

Decorate your house with Ghostbuster themed decor (see tutorial in this post).
Make Ghostbuster badges using the printables included in this post.
Serve marshmallows, green jello and Slimer popcorn (recipe included in this post).
Try the Ghostbuster VR Experience (see details below).
Get some marshmallow guns and have a marshmallow fight.
Make some DIY slime and play with it during the movie, this is great for little ones.

You can find a lot of darling Ghostbuster theme stuff on Pinterest (which is where I spend a lot of my free time) if you need more ideas. Ah, Pinterest. It is my happy place and the savior of car pool line! 😉 Which, with the Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan I can use Pinterest without worrying about going over. The Walmart Family Mobile PLUS plan includes unlimited talk, text, and data which includes up to 10GB of 4G LTE data plus a free movie on VUDU ($7 value) every month, this is a rental of a new release, that means you can plan a family movie night (with a new release) once a month! Yes please!! You get all of that for $49.88 per line per month. We have a smart TV and I don’t think we will ever get regular cable again because we have so many options that are customizable to us (and a free movie on VUDU).

I purchased the LG K7 phone (it is currently on rollback from $89.88 down to $49.88). You will also need to pickup the nano starter kit (also on rollback from $25 to $19.88). But that is all you need to get started. No contract, no credit check, no spending hundreds of dollars, no arm or a leg needed. It even has hotspot capability. Don’t worry that was one of the first things I checked. The employees who helped me were really friendly and they got it all set up really fast. They can even transfer your pre-existing phone number over. They showed me how to use a really cool feature of wave activated picture taking. No more trying to hold your thumb out to push the button. Just wave and it begins to countdown. Pretty nifty feature!

**Mom Tip: If you have any teens or tweenagers that are ready for a phone, THIS IS THE DEAL FOR YOU! This phone is nice enough for any adult but we all know those tweens are picky. This gives them all of the options without breaking YOUR wallet. You can even help them get it set up and then they can pay it each month. Hello responsibility lesson built-in right there! Get one for you and your teen because the more lines you add to the plan, the more you save. Once you have the phone purchased you only have to pay $19.88 when you sign up, since Family Mobile bills later, just like a regular phone.***

This is a really fun addition to this Ghostbusters themed movie night. The Ghostbusters VR experience gives users the unique experience of firing a proton pack and looking at ghosts straight in the eye. You can head to Walmart for a demo or make a Walmart Family mobile purchase to get your code. Then all you need to do is visit GhostbusterVR.com to register and redeem the code. You can download the app from the Apple Store or Google Play. Easy peasy!

Ghostbusters Printables

Next you will want to use our handy dandy ghostbuster printables to decorate and label your food.

You can also print out the name badges to give everyone. Mount on heavy cardstock. You can use a hole punch and string to make a faux lanyard.

The large round ghosts are perfect for the top of green

jello cups. The slime printable is great make a slime popcorn holder out of and the different slime tags can be used to label food and beverage.

The smaller round tabs are perfect for treat toppers like cupcakes or sandwiches!

Make sure to print out extra tags to be used as bunting. All you need is some string and a hole punch and you can create an adorable garland!

Ghostbuster/Slimer Decor

This is SUCH an easy craft anyone can do it! The results are fantastic and super dramatic since you can make it as big as the space you need! I don’t know about you but I will put together some really cute decor and then once the table is set up there is empty space. This will help you fill that space in a really fun way!

All you need is a paper towel roll, cotton batting, a hot glue gun and green spray paint or colored hair spray.

Slimer Popcorn

Again, another easy way to pull this party together. By easy I mean 3 ingredients and a microwave is all you need!

Popped popcorn (use the microwave kind, no butter gets the best results)!
White chocolate melts (you can use white chocolate chips too).
Green food coloring
I added lime jello unprepared to add a fun flavor (a 4th ingredient I know).

Place popcorn bag in microwave and while it is popping, place the white chocolate in a microwave safe bowl. When popcorn is done, remove it and place chocolate in microwave. Melt for one minute, then stir whether it looks like it is melted or not (this keeps it from scorching). Melt it for another 30 seconds, then stir again. If it needs any more time, microwave it in 10 second intervals. Remove and stir until smooth. Add green food coloring gel until

you get the color of green you want.

*You can also melt the chocolate quickly and easily on the stove top and just stir continually.

Place warm popcorn in large bowl then pour the melted green chocolate over the popcorn and toss gently over and over until you have completely coated the popcorn.

Place a sheet of parchment paper on a large baking sheet and pour the chocolate covered popcorn out on the pan. Let cool until the chocolate is firm and then break it apart a little bit and serve!

*Remove all the unpeopled kernels before adding the chocolate or else you will have little landmines of hard kernels stuck in your snack!
