Makeup Organization 101: Part 4~ 10 Tips On Getting Everything Cleaned

Oh good morning lovelies! After the craziness of Black Friday we are excited to get back to our Makeup Organization 101 Series! I don’t know about you but it is time to make room for all those packages being delivered! So since we are getting all of our brushes cleaned on the regular, we are ready for Part 4! Which is basically getting everything ELSE in our makeup and hair arsenal cleaned.

Sanitize Your Makeup

1. You can use one of two easy options to sanitize your lipstick. Either go over your lipstick with a sanitizer wipe or put your lipstick in the freezer overnight to kill germs and bacteria. Make sure to let it come back to a room temperature before applying to your lips or the consistency will be off.

2. Use isopropyl alcohol and a disposable mascara wand to clean glue off of false eyelashes.

3. Pour alcohol into a small spray bottle, then spritz any pressed powder cosmetics you have to disinfect them.

Makeup Tools

4. Clean out your pencil sharpener with some isopropyl alcohol and a cotton swab.

5. If you have a cloth makeup bag, turn it inside out and run it through a wash in the laundry. Let air dry. If your makeup bag is made of vinyl, leather, pleather, etc. then empty out your makeup bag, flip it inside out, and use makeup remover wipes to clean the inside.

6. Get your eyelash curler de-gunked by using a lighter. You can do this by gently lighting the curler for 5-10 seconds with the flame, to warm the dried mascara gunk. Clean the curler immediately with a tissue.

Hair Tools

7. To clean the dust from the back of your blow dryer, pop off the grill and use an old toothbrush to get it cleaned. This picture is so gross but it is a reality. On the same note, my girl Ashley who is the master of hair says you should be replacing your blow dryer every 4-5 years anyways. This was news to me so I am passing that on. We will be doing some more in-depth hair posts with Q & A, tips, tricks and information from some of our favorite stylists in the near future so make sure you are subscribed to the blog for those!

8. To get your curling iron looking shiny again, just grab a piece of steel wool and scrub it off. Or get a new one with our awesome NUME codes!

Skin Care Tools

9. Mix baby shampoo and hydrogen peroxide with water. Unclip the brush from your Clarisonic, and let it sit brush-side down in the water for 15 minutes.

10. Make sure your loofah is being cleaned regularly by tossing it in the washing machine — but do not put it in the dryer!

  • Great stuff good to know. Hey I have a question
How do u keep your cream eye shadow from drying out.

    • Glad you liked it :) For cream shadow you can use witch hazel or if you have something more gel based like gel liner, you can use either a clear primer (not oil control) and glycerin base like MAC has a glycerin spray, I have picked it up at the art store as well. You just mix 1/8th teaspoon of both and add it to it with like a bobby pin or something to mix it up and break it up :)

  • Really great tips! My make up and the tools I am using are not always that clean and very often I rush into the bathroom to clean some of my brushes that have become too dirty! I work as a cleaner (http://batterseacarpetcleaners.co.uk/) and as a general I keep my home and my stuff very clean… but my make up is often neglected. Thanks for the tips! I believe that they will be really helpful for me!
