Fitness Fashion Friday

Good Morning Bella’s and Happy Friday!! Most of you following us know that I ran my first 10K of the year this past week and I wanted to share with you guys my favorite activewear for running and it’s from Cents Of Style and today they are offering it all 50% off + FREE shipping with code ACTIVELOVE

Today for my race, I of course wanted to KILL IT so I got some awesome inspiration from my Killin It Tank and I paired it with the Grey & Neon Pink Capri’s. If you guys missed my post about my love for the Heidi Powell Heart Trucker Hat in collaboration with Cents Of Style make sure to check it out as well.

Heidi Powell is, of course, a huge fitness inspiration and having a little piece of her with me for my run was a great reminder to run hard!

The day started off sunny so I made sure to bring my Aviator Sunglasses for the run but the weather quickly turned out to be very overcast, cold, and CRAZY, CRAZY wind, so my glasses were more of a windbreaker that I was very grateful for.

This was definitely a hard run, there were some hills but honestly, the wind was ROUGH for running, even worse than the hills, but I was proud with my finish time considering the day. I then went ahead and put my race shirt over my tank before we started because I was freezing! But I love how the race T had the same teal shade as my tank!!

MY ROUTE

Damn that Mile 3 for slowing me down and keeping me from my goal pace of 9:30 but I learned a lot from this run and I am still really proud of finishing this 6.55 Miles #nota10K at a 9:47 Pace. LOL! A real 10K is 6.2 miles but who’s counting! I finished 30th Overall and 8th for Women…not too shabby. 🙂

I picked up almost a minute faster a mile than my last 10K and I have never run 6.5 Miles in my life so all in all it was a great day.

I am thankful to the wonderful ladies of Cents Of Style for the awesome and affordable activewear products to help me stay motivated to achieve my goals and look cute while doing it!

Let us know what your favorites are and make sure to check out all the awesome activewear that we love!!

PS. I have the Drop It Like A Squat Tank as well and I wore it all day today while at home blogging and out for running errands and even wearing it now writing this post….lol those who follow me on SnapChat -DeyneceMarie can attest :):)

Gotta love clothing that’s great for working out, going out and about, and being cozy at home. BAM!

Why I Am Not Going To Apologize For Loving My Active Wear

Oh, active wear! If loving you is wrong, then I don’t want to be right… haha! But seriously, I love my active wear and I don’t care who knows it!

Don’t get me wrong, I definitely wear my activewear to increase my ability for movement and fitness. But that ends up happening in so many ways each day that I tend to wear it all.the.time!

Don’t mind me, just wearing my active wear with a button down shirt, out for a nice stroll around our neighborhood.

My mother in law shared this hilarious video with me after visiting us for a week and realizing you NEED active wear to handle all the adventures that happen on any given day for us.

You know you’re with me when you walk a massive bridge, tour a precolonial plantation and head to the beach… all in one day… all in your activewear!

So when asked to share how I wear my active wear, it made me laugh because how do I NOT wear my active wear?

The Many Ways I Wear Active Wear

  • Gardening and Outdoors: What else would I wear to be lightweight, breathable and allow free movement?
Even my toddler wears active wear!

  • Carpool Lane: Who wants to be uncomfortable?

  • Baby Gym: This is the funniest and the most fun you can have. A bunch of babies (and mommas) running around doing bars, balance beam, and tumbling. Show those babies what a trampoline is for!

  • Horsing Around: There is nothing better than active wear when I am giving one of our horses a much-needed groom. Or when teaching our girls proper form. I want to be able to bend, turn and move quickly. As a Licensed Equine Assisted Psychotherapist, I am always wearing active wear when in the arena.

  • Home Building: How else am I going to climb into fireplaces, up ladders, and under vents?

  • At The Park: Play is an important part of childhood and being able to keep my kids safe, and PLAY with them is important to me. Up a tube, down a slide. I’m all in.

  • Cleaning My House: What else would I wear?

  • Music & Movement Class: Well, I could wear something else but sitting on the grass cross-legged, flying like an airplane, and the myriad of other ways a group of moms acting like goofballs just wouldn’t be as easy without my active wear on.

  • Working Out: This is a no-brainer, although I have done the elliptical in heels and it wasn’t awesome. Funny. But not awesome.

To sum it all up, active wear lets me live life and be fit! My fitness is a journey. From cancer survivor and back. I am a work in progress and I don’t have time for “should haves”.

Instead, I am prepared to find some time for my fitness whenever the opportunity strikes and not just my designated gym time. It also helps me be a hands on mom, to get down and play, and to be an example to my children of what a fit and active lifestyle looks and feels like.

I’ve assembled a few looks using some of my favorite pieces so you can get some active wear inspiration. So why not? Rock that active wear!

These are so cute and I could wear them every day! Oh wait….I have been making a conscious effort to wear something OTHER than active wear. LOL

But these days, with life so busy, finding time for both fitness and fashion can be tricky. Thankfully there are some great options out there. Fashionable and at a great price? Yes, please! I’ve noticed I can pack a cute top or cardigan, denim jacket, or scarf and I can turn my active wear into a pulled together look. For more tips check out this post here or what makeup to wear WITH that activewear check here! I don’t know about you but taking even 10 minutes to get pulled together really works wonders in my day!

So moral of the story- I’m not apologizing for my love of activewear, or the fact I will probably wear it to your wedding. 😉 Kidding, kind of.

What are your go-to pieces you always wear? Does activewear make your heart flutter like mine?

10K to Half Marathon Training Tips

10K to Half Marathon Training Tips

WELCOME BACK! Today I wanted to share some Half Marathon Training Tips that I have been using to help me get ready for my first Half Marathon on June 11th. I used these same tips to train for my 10Ks.

I have been running for the last couple of years but was never serious about distance running until a few months go. I always just liked running 3 miles because it was a quick, under 30-minute workout that would burn a lot of calories and is FREE. Then it was exciting to see the personal growth in my pace, how long I could run without walking, and then not being ready to stop after 3 miles. I am now running between 4 to 5 miles as my short runs. Lets talk about how you go from a 10K to Half Marathon!!

But it was exciting to see the personal growth in my pace, how long I could run without walking, and then not being ready to stop after 3 miles. I am now running between 4 to 5 miles as my short runs!!

Let’s talk about how you go from a 10K to Half Marathon!!

1. Build up a running base - My average mileage going into training was running about 3 to 4 days a week and running between 3 and 5 miles for my runs. Starting with a base makes it a lot easier for your body to acclimate to this training schedule and help avoid injury.

2. Choose the best training program for you! There are plenty out there.

The picture below is the training program that I am following *mostly*.

I like this one because it’s only four days a week of running. I have a very busy and crazy travel/work schedule, so go into your training knowing your limitations and also realizing it will be more of a guideline, since you need to be able to adjust the training for your life. That brings me to my third tip…..

3. Get a running coach or partner, of course you can run and train alone, but I can’t tell you how much having a running coach has helped me. You should all go follow @kkapinos on Instagram, she is a BOSS!! But really she actually was my boss for a long time with Bobbi Brown. 🙂

She has always inspired me and she is an incredible runner. She has raced over 70 RACES! She just raced the Boston Marathon last week and her strength and determination inspires me. She calls me the night before a race, gives me amazing advice, she knows my body and how I run so I can totally trust what she gives me for my training. I will call her at the end of the week and let her know what my schedule is the next week and she will help adapt my training for the week I have coming up. Having a coach or someone to run with for me is also great for understanding, People who don’t run, don’t get why we run haha! Kim always says “We don’t run because it’s easy” and it’s s true.

10K to Half Marathon Training Tips

The idea of running 13.1 miles is a bit intimidating, is still is for me and I’m almost up to 7 mile runs. What I love about the training is that you don’t have to run A TON of long runs, its all about three shorter/recovery runs and one long run. Your endurance run, for me these long runs aren’t necessarily about pace and speed but more giving me the confidence of knowing that I CAN DO IT!

4. Start a running Journal…..or for me it’s the Map My Run APP. I LOVE this app! When I started running I didn’t have the extra $$$ to invest in the Garmin Running GPS Watch so I downloaded the Map My Run App and paid the $5.99 monthly upgrade to have a coach on the app. You set your pace goal, and every 1,2 or 5 minutes it will tell you your running pace to help keep you on track to the goal you set for yourself. I love this app because when I look back at my runs it’s great to see the growth of going from last summer running at a 10:21 pace, to running longer distance at 8:57 pace.

5. Cross train + STRETCH, STRETCH, STRETCH. I usually do Pilates or Yoga for my cross training days, this is so so important to help avoid injury and to keep your muscles from tightening up. For me, my legs gets super tight so using a foam roller really helps to loosen up my muscles as well.

6. Train in EVERYTHING, run when it’s hot, run when it’s cold, run uphill, run downhill, run in it all!!!! This is something I learned a little late, my first 10k last fall I was not prepared for the course, the last 2 1/2 miles were uphill…….guess who had NEVER trained hills??? ME!! So this was a great learning run for me. I didn’t make my goal pace, since I had never trained hills I had never realized how it would greatly affect my breathing. I couldn’t get my breathing right and felt like I couldn’t breathe. Luckily I had my friend Mary running with me and she gave me some great advise on the run, to loosen up my shoulders, and take in some deep breaths to bring me back. THANKS MARY!

Brows By Color

Hey there beauties! Today we are talking a bit more about brows! Specifically hair color and brows…

If you missed our in-depth post and Deynece’s FABULOUS video tutorial make sure to watch it first!

Color Selection For Eyebrows

Now that you’ve had that refresher, let’s talk about color selection for eyebrows.

Usually, your eyebrows are not the same color as the hair on your head. This occurs both naturally and not. Most often, the eyebrow hair is a little ashy, which means that a gray-brown rather than a red-brown will look much more natural on most people (gingers excluded).

Brows By Color

With multiple options out there we thought we would create a quick list of favorite products by hair color:

A) REDHEAD For redheads who have light red hair and red eyebrow hair try: Anastasia Caramel Duo
For redheads who have dark red hair and brown eyebrows try: MAC shadow in Espresso or Milani Stay Put Brow Color in Soft Brown.

B) BLONDE. For blondes who would like a subtle natural looking brow go with: Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Wheat, Milani Stay Put Brow Color in Natural Taupe, or KEVYN AUCOIN Precision Brow Pencil in Ash Blonde.

For blondes who want a bold brow try: Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Taupe or Blonde, or MAC Eye Shadow in Charcoal Brown

C) BRUNETTE. Depending on the hue in your brows you will want to go warmer or cooler. For brunettes who prefer a soft natural looking brow with a warmer brow go with: Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Mahagony or MAC Eye Shadow in Brun

For brunettes who would like a bold brow try: Bare Minerals Essential Brow Color in Brunette or Bobbi Brown Perfectly Defined Long-Wear Brow Pencil in Espresso.

So there you have it, brows by color! We hope this helped guide you on your brow game journey!

As you heard from the video I usually am running after work so for me it’s more about the makeup I am taking off before a run then applying it. When I run a race that is in the morning I will do this as my makeup routine. Keep in mind about SPF when you are working out. If you are outside then, of course, wear it for sun protection, but if you are working out indoors I would recommend not wearing SPF as the toxins you sweat out are able to leave the skin.

If you are using a SPF in the morning but you workout in the evening you should be fine but just something to keep in mind.
