Instagram & YouTube Makeup Isn’t REAL LIFE | See The Women, Not The Makeup

Instagram & YouTube Makeup Needs To STOP!!

Since watching YouTube has become such a HUGE HUGE influence in this generation’s makeup application, we need to have a little come to Jesus talk about these trends and WHY they are happening.

This Instagram & YouTube Makeup really makes me crazy, It’s gone from makeup to be used as something to enhance a women and make her feel more beautiful and confident, to who is going to be the next Kylie Jenner or Kim Kardashian, how much we can overdraw our lips, and how we can contour our faces to look like someone else.

Most of you know that I have worked for Bobbi Brown Cosmetics for almost 9 years and truly believe in her philosophy that makeup is about enhancing and not changing the face. You can still rock a bomb smokey eye but you apply it in a way that still brings out the feature of the EYE instead of just seeing makeup with a cut crease, crazy winged liner or false lashes. Honestly besides the Instagram crazy, heavy, painted on brows which I HATE, eye makeup should be fun and I think playing up your eyes is great, my biggest complaint is what is happening in complexion. What is baking? Why would you pack a light powder over half the face to “cut” that contour. My husband made a good point when looking at my Instagram & YouTube Makeup and he said ” Babe, when girls lay out in the sun they do everything they can to avoid tan lines so they look even, why would you purposely make tan lines on your face with crazy contouring”? LOL

I also DIEEEEE when I see the faces and poses that these girls are making on Instagram and YouTube….. WHO ACTUALLY WALKS INTO A ROOM WITH A SLIGHTLY OPEN MOUTH AND SERIOUS EYES. When did smiling in a picture change??

Doing this Instagram & YouTube Makeup on myself for the first time was so eye opening to how much time people are spending to totally change and alter their appearance. My husband couldn’t believe how different I looked and told me I actually looked like a Kardashian in this picture, not because of features, but because of the attitude and the poses and the heavy handed makeup that I was wearing. Don’t get me wrong, I LOVE MAKEUP and I wear a lot of it but it’s about applying colors and tones to enhance the features, not to change them. I look nothing like myself in the picture below, most of my freckles/moles are totally covered up and my friends didn’t even think it was me in the picture.

I think things that these girls watching YouTube need to remember is that in real life it looks like A TON OF MAKEUP. Using professional lighting and cameras take away the appearance of a some of the makeup but who wears that much makeup in real life?

Instagram & YouTube Makeup VS Bobbi Brown Philosophy Makeup

You guys, I’m not saying don’t wear makeup or don’t wear a lot of makeup, but wear the right makeup for your skin and realize how makeup can enhance even with a smokey eye!

I LOVE makeup and like I said, I wear a lot of it, but let’s go through the differences of No Makeup Glam Makeup compared to Instagram & YouTube Makeup.

  • Girlfriend!!!! I didn’t realize that was you until I kept reading lol You do look so much different. But in a good way 🙂

I love playing around with makeup. It’s my way of learning new things, like the cut crease.. I like to switch it up every now and then.

  • I think you look better with the Bobbi Brown makeup personally. Like you said, it’s all about how you apply it.

  • This needed to be said. All the K’s just really need to go away. Love you with makeup or no makeup. Still beautiful.

  • I was an 80s, pile on the make-up girl, and now cringe when I see those pictures. I’m sure in 20 years my daughter will feel the same way of her pictures.

  • Hi! Girl, you are gorgeous! Thanks for sharing this. And I agree with you, smiling in pictures is much more fabulous than the slightly opened mouth and narrowed eyes haha. But that’s just us I guess. 🙂 Stay lovely!

  • Interesting blog post and interesting thoughts. For me, I’m all about EASY, natural makeup and it’s always totally doable. My videos, Instagram photos, etc are all EASY to do and I don’t rep myself as a pro makeup artist because I am NOT, but I love trying new products and consider myself a beauty blogger without a doubt. I do agree with your thoughts, but honestly the crazy makeup trends don’t really make me feel the same way they make you feel because I appreciate the art when someone is getting on the red carpet, etc. I just would never do that makeup on a day to day basis as it’s not realistic and working women don’t have time to spend 2 hours on their makeup, makes no sense! However I do appreciate the cool makeup art out there 😉 xx adaatude.com

    • Adaleta, I’m right there with you! (This is Melissa, the other half of Deux Bella) I personally started my career in makeup because I grew up painting. I love the ability to express ourselves through makeup as a medium. I absolutely LOVE doing runway makeup (and I bake) on occasion. Haha! I actually think women should wear as much or as little makeup as they want. Men too! Life is too short so go for it!
Deynece sees women everyday who are discouraged with themselves because they can’t get the same look and that’s where her frustration arises I think. 🙂 love your thoughts! And your blog!

  • I completely agree. The girls in my town now pay to have their make up done for a night out, so it’s all caked on and might look great in photos but it looks so odd in real life! I’m glad someone who clearly loves make-up has written this post, you nailed it.

  • I love you with your Natural make-up. So pretty and fresh. You still look beautiful in the Youtube make-up, but I you could be one of the Kardashian sisters! It’s definitely too much for regular day-to-day, and I hope most people realize that. Great post!

  • Great perspective. There are a lot of looks out that that I do like but it is important to remember it’s not a realistic looking trend. Thanks for sharing!
