A Taste Of Charleston | Charleston Culinary Tour

Welcome back lovelies!

Are you visiting Charleston, South Carolina in the near future? Or are you a local and looking for a great night out? Then look no further and book one of the Charleston Culinary Tours.

Charleston is known for its fabulous restaurants and is home to several award-winning chefs. As the city flourishes and progresses, so have the local cuisine options. With a fantastic mix of establishments both those that have been a favorite for generations and those new on the scene it has endless possibilities.

This can make narrowing down a restaurant choice, an exciting and arduous task. Have you ever thought, I want to try them all?

That’s where the Charleston Culinary Tour steps in. We were able to enjoy multiple dishes at 4 restaurants and top it off with one last stop for gelato!

A true southern staple, with a twist.

As a new transplant to the Charleston area (you can read more about that here), I have fallen in love with the local culture, the gorgeous cotton candy skies over the ocean, the mix of palm, pine and oak trees romantically draped in Spanish Moss.

Pair that with the beautiful architecture at every turn and the HISTORY and it’s easy to understand why Charleston has been named a “Top 10” travel destination in the United States for eighteen consecutive years. Of those it was voted the number one travel destination in the United States for several times and was recently named the most romantic city in the world.

There are several tours offered. It just depends what your looking for. Do you want a sampling of different spots? Or do you want a Top Chef experience? Either way, if you are foodie and/or a lover of all things Food Network there is a tour for you. They include:

  • Culinary-Restaurant
  • Farmers Market (seasonal availability)
  • Mixologist
  • Chef’s Kitchen Tour
  • Distillery

We chose the restaurant tour BUT we plan on doing the Farmer’s Market Tour once the season begins - it was that good - we will be back!

Highlights for us included:

  • Our knowledgable guide. It was so fascinating to learn the history of different buildings along our route. What had originally been there, what the future holds, etc. One building we have been past numerous times was even hand painted back to it’s original brick facade- brick by brick.
  • Finding the different spots from the movie “The Notebook”. What can I say, I am romantic!
  • Getting great recommendations for more restaurants to try out, and others to return too- it’s going to take us a while to get to them all!
  • The menu was both delicious and varied. From fried green tomatoes, to a savory flat bread. I loved trying all the new flavors and each chef’s twist on a “classic” dish.
  • We left very full! That is a highlight since my hubby can eat like a champion.
  • Getting to know the other people in our group. Our guide set up a few “break the ice” conversations at the beginning and the meals are all served family style, so you really get a social experience as well.

Tips:

  • If you tend to get hangry- eat a little beforehand so that you aren’t starving at the first location, although we did not eat and we were stuffed by the end!
  • Bring an umbrella if you are going during the rainy season because we’ve got crazy coastal weather
  • Comfortable walking shoes
  • Bring your camera!
  • Take the tour early on your visit since you will find new spots to try or return to!

Once again I just have to rave about this tour. It was such a unique way to get to know the city. I have been on many tours throughout the world. Some fabulous, some not. This was definitely up there with my favorites- especially once you factor in the delectable dishes- this tour takes the cake (punny).

Have you ever been on a culinary tour? Are you visiting Charleston anytime soon? We’d love to hear your experience or your plans!

XOXO~ M&D
